WHAT DOES AN EMERGENCY DENTIST DO?

An emergency dentist is a dental professional who provides treatment for any dental injury, pain, or problem that cannot wait for a regularly scheduled dental appointment. An emergency dentist treats issues such as broken teeth, loose teeth, damaged braces, lost crowns, injured soft tissues of the mouth, and toothaches.

WHEN IS EMERGENCY DENTAL CARE NECESSARY?

If you are experiencing severe tooth pain, a cracked tooth, or other dental injuries, you should seek emergency dental care as soon as possible. Keeping such oral conditions waiting would only worsen them and make them more complicated to treat. We provide immediate first aid and treatment to patients who have dental emergencies so that you don’t have to go through the hassle of waiting for an appointment during such situations.

PRIMARY CARE DURING DENTAL EMERGENCIES

When you experience any of these dental emergencies, please adhere to the following means of providing short-term relief until you see a dentist:

  • Broken teeth: Please use a clean piece of gauze to apply pressure on the site of injury to facilitate a clot and arrest the bleeding. Rinse your mouth with clean water to remove the blood and broken tooth pieces. You may also use a cold pack to reduce pain and swelling.
  • Knocked-out tooth: Pick up the knocked-out tooth holding only the tooth crown and rinse it with clean water. Place it in a glass of milk and bring it along to our dental practice, as we may be able to place it back in the socket and allow it to reattach to the tissues.
  • Broken restorations: Restorations that fall off or break can expose the tooth to the microbes in the mouth. This can increase tooth sensitivity and even lead to infections. Please visit us at the earliest so that we can replace the damaged restoration with a new one.
